Iranian ‘White Whale’ vying at Slemani fest

Iranian animation ‘White Whale’ is vying at the 2021 Slemani Int’l filmfest in Iraq.

Iranian animation ‘White Whale’ has been competing at the 5th edition of the Slemani International Film Festival in Iraq.

Directed by Amir Mehran, the eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the bodies of his soldier friends.

The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.

The short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The crew includes character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naimi and storyboard creator Ammar Ghanbarzadeh.

The animation has so far participated in several international festivals including the Cartoon Club- International Festival of Animation Cinema, Comics and Game- in Italy, the AnimArt Film Festival in Greece, the International festival of animated film “Constantine's Gold Coin” in Serbia, and the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China.

The Slemani International Film Festival hosts films with different genres from around the world.

The current edition of the event is being held on December 17-23, 2021.
